Girdwood Food Pantry Grant FundingGirdwood Rotary is proud to support the Food Pantry's efforts to provide food and more to those in the Girdwood Valley who can use an extra hand. At the onset of the pandemic, our club donated $2500 to help ensure the pantry was stocked and ready. A portion of that was a contribution by Rotary District 5010 .We're pleased to announce that our application for additional District grant funding has been approved! They will donate an extra $1500 and our club is excited to double match that amount making a total donation of $7000! The Food Pantry has done a wonderful job of providing food+ to anyone in need. It takes a lot of work and organization. Thank you to all who have been involved, with special thanks to Terry Sherwood who is tireless in her dedication to the community. Good work Girdwood Valley! |

2020 Girdwood Graduate ParadeOn Friday May 15th Girdwood Forest Fairies put together a parade for Girdwood High School Seniors. The students walked with their families up Hightower Road to the Nissman Pavillion in the Forest Fair park where they were recognized with a small gift and individual graduation photos by local photographers Julia Martyn and Camille Jones. The residents of Girdwood lined the street along the parade route, keeping socially distant, but showing all the love and respect we have for this year's outstanding graduates. Girdwood Rotary helps purchase new equipment for Bean's CafeGirdwood Rotary is honored to have been part of the recent fundraising effort for Bean's Cafe. The Anchorage Daily News published the following story on April 3rd, 2013. ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A nonprofit group has donated money for a major piece of equipment for Bean's Cafe soup kitchen in Anchorage. Bean's development director Ken Miller says the $17,000 convection steam oven will be formally dedicated Wednesday. The Anchorage Rotary Hillside Club spearheaded the effort by local rotary clubs to donate the funds for the equipment in memory of Bean's late executive director Jim Crockett, who died suddenly of pneumonia n November. At the time of his death, Crockett also was president of the Gateway Rotary Club in east Anchorage. Bean's began feeding needy Anchorage residents in 1979 and now serves more than 800 meals a day. See the article online at http://www.adn.com/2013/04/03/2849953/group-donates-funds-for-beans.html. |
Social at The Grind
John Michael O'Leary, aka "Gator", hosted our Rotary Club meeting on March 14th at his establishment, The Grind (236 Hightower Rd). Gator prepared a buffet that, according to all that partook, was scrumptious.
Following the buffet, Gator treated us to a tour of his coffee bean cooking and blending facility located at the front of his store. We are happy to say that Girdwood Rotary Members are now educated on the “ins and outs” of the proper selection, blending and baking of beans in the coffee making process. |
